Firm Profile

The timing for establishing this firm was critical and shaped the course that was ultimately taken. Conceived in the depth of one of the greatest recessions of the Provinces history, efficiency and frugalty in operations became guiding principles for the firms survival. As capital expenditures on new projects declined, renovations and modifications become the order of the day. As expenditures on private sectory projects dwindled, minor expenditures on school renovations evolved as the only game in town. These factors combined allowed us to hone our skills in the areas of moderation and school design work.

From these initial experiences, the firm has evolved as a major player in the design of educational facilities in Southern Alberta and a diversified portfolio of designs for other building types.

In 1982 the firm started with a total staff of four and worked on smaller projects with construction values each less than $1,000,000.00. In the intervening the total staff has ranged from 3-7 but the construction values for projectes completed has ranged from under $1,000,000.00 singly to over $35,000,000.00 in Joint Venture.

The focus of our operation should be judged by the output of our performance and not the size of organization. We take pride in the evidence of efficiency which justifies our strategy: To not take on more work than we can execute faithfully and efficiently.

Our primary focus has been the design of Educational Facilities, but our range of experience is diverse as listed below.

Through acquiring this broad base of experience, we have attained a high level of competence in working with a large variety of clients, and in completing projects with great diversity in types and values. It is our policy to handle each and every project with competence and a full degree of professionalism. To this end we have been very receptive to forming associations with other firms in order to augment our resources, as the needs warrant. For all assignments, the client's satisfaction is our ultimate goal. Our firm also welcomes any opportunity afforded us to serve as associate architects and in joint ventures as the situation warrants. Our history of numerous projects "well done" has given us confidence in our ability to complete in a satisfactory manner, any project that we would seek to undertake. We will only pursue projects for which we feel we are adequately experienced, solely or jointly.

The firm's principal, Joseph A. Matthew has significantly diversified experience which has prepared him for work in varying geographic locations and climatic conditions. This claim is substantiated by his West Indian origin and experience, his American education and over 25 years of Canadian experience.
